The Alfa Romeo Mole Costruzione Artigianale 001 from
last year may not be an official vehicle from the Italian car manufacturer but
its staggeringly good looks made it one of the most talked-about vehicles unveiled
in 2018.
Created through a collaboration between Up Design
and the Adler Group, the 001 is a re-bodied Alfa Romeo 4C with concept
car-looks both inside and out. Now, it has been announced that the one-off will
cross the auction block at RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba sale on May 25.
The 001 started out life as a 4C which actually had
40,000 km under its skin but was totally transformed thanks to design work from
Umberto Palermo. All the sports car’s body panels were replaced, meaning the
car features transformed front and rear fascias and also incorporates bespoke
headlights and taillights. The car looks so good that it actually looks like
something which Alfa Romeo itself would build in limited numbers.
To complement the glorious exterior of the car, those
behind this stunning creation also worked extensively to re-define the
interior. Consequently, there are new yellow and black materials found
throughout as well as accents finished in aluminum and carbon fiber.
Despite the modifications, no changes were made to
the powertrain of the 4C. Consequently, the car continues to be powered by a
1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 237 hp and 349 Nm of torque. This powertrain can send a regular 4C to 96 km/h in 4.1 seconds and while we don’t have acceleration figures for the Mole
Costruzione Artigianale 001, it is likely just as brisk.
