The new Bajaj Avenger 160 Street ABS has started to
arrive at select dealerships in India. The new model of the Bajaj Avenger range
has been priced at INR 81,037 (ex-showroom Nagpur) and is INR 7,040 cheaper
than the model it replaces - the Avenger 180 Street. Do note that the Avenger
180 Street did not feature the safety net of ABS. The Bajaj Avenger 160 Street ABS
undercuts the 2019 Suzuki Intruder ABS by more than INR 20,000. The latter's
prices start at INR 1,01,362 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Bajaj Avenger 160 Street ABS is seen in the
images here in two colour options - Red and Black. The test rides and bookings
of the motorcycle have commenced at select outlets. The new variant, as seen in
the images, looks identical to the Avenger 180 Street. It even shares the same
graphics, and the only visual cue that distinguishes the two bikes is the
branding on the side panel.
The Avenger 160 Street ABS model draws power from
the Pulsar NS160's 160.3 cc oil-cooled, single-cylinder motor. Linked to a
five-speed transmission, the engine churns out 15.5 PS at 8,500 rpm and 14.6 Nm
of torque at 6,500 rpm. The power output is at par with the Avenger 180 Street,
while the torque figure is higher (14.6 Nm in the new model Vs 13.7 Nm in the old
model).
Stopping power comes from a disc brake at the front
and a drum brake at the back, while a single-channel ABS, as on all latest
Bajaj Auto models except the Dominar 400, comes as standard. The back wheel
features Rear-Lift Protection (RLP) sensor to avoid accidental stoppies. Shock
absorption department is identical to the Avenger 180 Street and comprises
conventional telescopic front forks and twin-sided springs at the back.
Other features include halogen headlight with LED
DRL, smoked fly screen and a split-style instrument console with tank-mounted
fuel gauge. Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto is working on the next-generation Avenger range
that will arrive with the BS-VI emission norm upgrade. We expect to see
full-LED headlight and a full-digital instrument console among other premium
features on the next-generation cruiser range.
