The M2 Competition may be widely regarded as the
perfect compact RWD drive sports car, but BMW is working on an even more
focused version, allegedly be dubbed the M2 CS, that was recently filmed
testing near the Nurburgring.
The
M2 CS will only be built for a single model year and come outfitted with
largely the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine as the
previous-generation M3 and M4 that’s also used by the current M2 Competition. A
series of modifications will reportedly boost grunt up to 445 hp, a serious
figure for a car of this size.
Much like the M2 Competition and the original M2
before it, the M2 CS will be rear-wheel drive only and come with either a
six-speed manual or a dual-clutch transmission. This should make it an absolute
blast to drive and result in some fairly impressive performance figures.
The uprated engine won’t be the only difference
between the CS and the “normal” version. For example, the car will be available
with carbon ceramic brakes and sold with a number of bespoke visual and
aerodynamic parts, including new front and rear spoilers, a custom rear
diffuser, carbon fiber roof, sculpted hood, and new wheels wrapped in Michelin
Sport Cup 2 tires.
Those looking to pick up an M2 CS will have Black
Sapphire, Alpine White, Hockenheim Silver, and Misano Blue paint schemes to
choose from. BMW hasn’t said when the M2 CS
will premiere, but we expect it to launch before the end of the year.
