Jaguar Classic is working on a limited run of
electric E-Types, but they’re not the only game in town as Evolution E-Types
and Electrifi have joined forces to offer their own take on the idea. Dubbed the Evolution Electrifi
Jaguar E-Type, the model will be based on an original 1960’s E-Type and feature
a strengthened chassis to cope with the additional torque of an electric motor.
A prototype is set to be unveiled this summer and
the production model will initially be offered as an aluminum-bodied roadster.
A coupe will follow later. While the model will be based on a 1960’s E-Type, it will be upgraded
to be safer and more refined than the original model. As part of this process,
the car will come equipped with an electric power steering system,
high-performance brakes and an optimized suspension. Evolution E-Types will
also install an electric air conditioning system.
Technical details remain elusive, but the companies
said the car will have 450 hp. This will reportedly enable
the roadster to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in less than four seconds
and have a top speed of 265 km/h. The firms also said the “overall
weight of the car will remain the same,” but there’s no word on the capacity of
the battery pack or how much range it will deliver.
Interestingly, the conversion will be “fully
reversible without modification.” As part of this effort, each E-Type will come
with its original engine and transmission so owners can revert back to petrol
power if they wish. Evolution E-Types and Electrifi are currently accepting orders and
the car is slated to be launched early next year. Pricing is expected to start
around £ 850,000 which means the model will cost about
as much as 13 Jaguar I-Paces.
