Lexus continues to experiment with new striking
colors for its LC luxury coupe and we can’t say we mind that one bit. We’re pretty sure the Lexus LC
would look drop dead gorgeous in any color imaginable, but this “Space Orange”
matte paintwork unveiled at the Barcelona Motor Show (May 11-19) suits the
coupe’s flowing lines perfectly.
Mind you, this paint is not available to buy, at
least not yet. Lexus names the Barcelona show car an LC 500h “Matte Prototype,”
hinting at the fact that this is actually a concept version. However, we don’t
see any problems for Lexus to turn this into a production version if there’s
enough demand for it.
The reason the automaker is showing this new
paintwork in Barcelona now is to gauge public reaction. It wouldn’t be a first
for Lexus, after all. The luxury brand has already brought us the LC 500h
Yellow Edition and the LC 500 Structural Blue Edition; we don’t see why the
Space Orange matte paint won’t get an edition of its own.
According to Lexus, the color is inspired by the
orange tones that can be seen when we look at the sun during sunsets. It has a
matte finish that highlights the coupe’s sleek body and contrasts with the
black 21-inch alloys, carbon fiber roof, and carbon fiber rear diffuser.
The orange theme continues inside, with the cabin of
the LC 500h “Matte Prototype” featuring orange accents on the steering wheel,
dashboard, and door cards. No changes were made to the Lexus LC 500h’s hybrid system which
continues to deliver a total of 359 PS from a naturally-aspirated
3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine and an electric motor. That’s enough to enable the
2-tonne coupe to cover the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5 seconds and top
out at 250 km/h.
