Opel’s all-new sixth-generation Corsa
supermini, now available as a battery-electric variant for the very first time.
Dubbed the Corsa-e, this electrified model can offer a zero-emission driving
range of 330 km, per WLTP standards. Order books for the new Corsa are
set to open “in a few weeks”, beginning with the Corsa-e and followed by the
diesel and petrol versions. Here however, we’ll only be discussing the
electrified model.
The Corsa-e is fully electric and features a 50 kWh
battery that can be fast-charged to 80% of its total capacity in just 30
minutes. Owners can do so either via cable, wall box or a high-speed charger.
Meanwhile, the state of charge can be monitored with the myOpel app.
Power output is rated at 134 HP and 260 Nm of instantaneous peak torque. This means that the
Corsa-e can sprint from zero to 50 km/h in 2.8 seconds and needs 8.1
seconds to hit 100 km/h. Once in transit, the driver can
choose between three different driving modes in Normal, Eco and Sport, the
latter increasing responsiveness and driving dynamics, while Eco mode focuses
on boosting the range.
The Corsa-e, just like any other all-new Corsa
model, features a dynamic design while retaining the previous-generation’s
exterior dimensions. Overall length is 4.06 meters, while the
coupe-like roofline stands 48 mm lower than that of its
predecessor. The driver also sits lower by 28 mm, and if that’s
not enough of an improvement, know that you can also spec the interior with
leather seats for a more premium feel.
Speaking of the interior, there is a new Multimedia
Navi infotainment system embedded within the 7.0-inch color touchscreen
display, although a bigger 10-inch screen is available if you opt for the
Multimedia Navi Pro setup. With it you can access helpful functions such as
real-time traffic information as well as direct connection with roadside
assistance.
The Corsa-e can be equipped with glare-free IntelliLux
LED matrix headlights, which Opel says are a segment-first option. A new
high-res camera controls eight LED elements, continuously adapting the light
beam to the current traffic situation and the car’s surroundings.
Meanwhile, advanced driver assistance systems
provide additional peace of mind. You get traffic sign recognition, alerts
concerning speed limits, radar-guided Adaptive Speed Control and sensor-based
Flank-Guard – the latter two are brand new for the Corsa. Last but not least,
there is side blind-spot assist and a variety of parking assistants.
