Seat has brought a
wide range of vehicles to the 2019 Barcelona Motor Show, Spain, which kicked
off on May 9 and will end two weeks later. The main focus of the VW Group-owned
car brand for this year’s event is electrification – and the El-Born and Minimo
concepts, as well as the Cupra e-Racer, are on display at its stand.
Based on the
Group’s MEB electric vehicle platform, the El-Born is the VW ID.3’s Spanish
cousin, with a sportier look and similar performance. The study uses a 62 kWh battery
pack that provides it with a range of up to 420 km and powers the
204 PS electric motor, while its production version will
launch next year.
The Minimo is a
Renault Twizy rival. It’s an electric urban cruiser with two seats in tandem,
measures only 2.5 meters in length and 1.24 meters in
width, and comes with an easily swappable battery that gives it a range of 100+
km. Like the El-Born, the Minimo also previews a production
version, which will be introduced in 2021.
Billed as the first
electric racing touring car, the Cupra e-Racer has the ability to reach 100
km/h in just 3.2 seconds and 200 km/h in 8.2 seconds thanks
to an electric powertrain that offers a peak power of 680 PS and 408 PS of continuous power.
The Cupra Formentor
is also present at the car show. It’s only a concept for now, with a plug-in
hybrid powertrain that produces 245 PS and gives it an electric
range of up to 50 km in the WLTP cycle, but it offers a glimpse of a
future production version that’s thought to debut next year.
Aside from showing
the three concepts and racer, the automaker will allow visitors to test drive
several vehicles such as the Ibiza, Arona TGI and Tarraco, as well as the eXS
KickScooter and Cupra Ateca.
