The Suzuki Jimny
has made its launch debut in Singapore during the 2019 The Cars at Expo event,
with the pint-sized off-roader being priced by Champion Motors at SGD 114,100 with COE. In Thailand, the Jimny starts from 1.55 million baht.
There’s only one
variant, which uses a K15B 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder
engine that provides 100 hp at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The
mill is linked to a four-speed automatic with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro four-wheel
drive system featuring selectable high and low range.
Built on a ladder
frame with additional cross members, the Jimny uses a three-link rigid axle
with coil springs at the front and rear for better performance off-road, as well
as improved ride comfort. A 210 mm ride height, 4.9 metre turning radius, along
with 37-degree approach, 28-degree ramp breakover and 49-degree departure
angles contribute to off-road performance.
For the money, the
Singapore-spec Jimny is rather well equipped, with automatic LED projector
headlamps, LED taillights, 15-inch alloy wheels (195/80 profile tyres),
automatic air-conditioning and a multi-function steering wheel.
The list of safety
and driver assist systems is also rather impressive, with six airbags, Vehicle
Sway Warning, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Hill Hold Control, Hill
Descent Control, ESP, ABS and Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS), with the last
item being a form of autonomous emergency braking. Eight colour options are available,
but it’ll cost an additional SGD 1,000 for a contrasting roof.
