At the 38th GTI gathering, Volkswagen has presented two Golf concepts called the GTI Aurora and Estate FighteR. Created by two teams of apprentices, both of them feature design updates, extra gear and significantly more power. The Golf GTI Aurora builds on the front-wheel drive hot hatch and gets a Nardo Gray, Deep Black Pearl Effect and Mint Green color combo. The automaker says that all decorative elements were hand-painted.

Turned into a two-seater, this study also sports additional displays in the center console that give drivers access to certain engine and vehicle data. The passenger can view the same things in real time on a tablet which, in turn, can be used to control the 3,500-watt sound system. A holographic module fitted in the boot is another novelty of the car. The feature is interactive and can be used to play music. According to the automaker, the controls are intuitive and everyone knows how to operate it, even if they haven’t tested out a hologram technology before.

Power continues to come from the 2.0-liter petrol engine, coupled to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The power unit has been tuned to produce a very impressive 380 PS. To better understand what this means in a FWD compact hot hatch, we’ll remind you that the production Golf GTI TCR packs 290 PS, a 45 PS improvement compared to the regular Golf GTI.

The second premiere is the Golf Estate R 4Motion FighterR, which is a more track-focused version of the sporty compact wagon. It sports a 400 PS TSI engine, 100 PS more than the series model, linked to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The width has been increased by 3 cm on each side and the show car has been equipped with a rooftop light system and strobe lights in the grille. The extra oomph and other equipment will help it in its new job: safety car at different racing events on the Sachsenring, where motorsport fans will be able to spot it instantly thanks to the glossy paint job in Crystal Silver and Nardo Gray, completed by the Misano Red and Piano Black design colors.

The final addition on the outside is a 360-degree camera installed on the roof, which was already used to record a fast lap on the Sachsenring that visitors to the event will be able to see at the VW stand, using VR glasses. Full leather interior with Alcantara and red stitching, bucket seats and premium sound system are other defining features of the Golf Estate R FighteR.
