The range-topping VW Touareg V8 TDI is now available
to order in Europe, giving customers one last chance to get an eight-cylinder
diesel from the German brand. Under the bonnet is a 4.0-liter V8 producing 415 hp and 900 Nm of torque, making the Touareg one of the most powerful diesel
SUVs available in Europe. The colossal torque figure makes the big VW SUV fit
for a maximum trailer weight of 3.5 tonnes.
The oil burner is paired to an eight-speed automatic
transmission and a permanent 4Motion all-wheel drive system, enabling the new
Touareg V8 TDI to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.9 seconds
and hit an electronically limited 250 km/h top speed.
Standard equipment includes everything from air
suspension, an electronically operated tailgate, Vienna leather seats and
19-inch “Tirano” alloy wheels. Customers will get to choose between the
standard Elegance and the optional Atmosphere package. The former features
metal details in the cabin while the latter replaces them with a warmer wood
trim. The R-Line package is also available.
The list of tech features is also quite long, and
includes driver assist systems such as Night Vision, Traffic Jam and Roadwork
Assist, Front Cross Traffic Assist, active all-wheel steering, and a head-up
display. Big diesel SUVs are becoming increasingly rare these days as they’re
replaced with hybrid petrol models, and the Touareg V8 TDI is among the last of
its breed. VW’s marketing boss previously said that this is the last V8 diesel
car they’re making, which in a way means it’s pretty special.
Prices for the new VW Touareg V8 TDI start from
89,825 euros in Germany.
