The Voyager name is closely associated with
Plymouth, but it’s making a return and this time it isn’t on an ill-fated
Lancia. Unveiled earlier today, the 2020 Chrysler Voyager is a value-priced
Pacifica with a different name. It effectively replaces the Pacifica L and LX,
and is designed to appeal to budget conscious families and fleet customers.
Styling changes are minor, but the Voyager has a
relatively plain front fascia which is largely devoid of chrome trim. The model
also has a new liftgate with Voyager badging. Detailed specifications weren’t
announced, but the Voyager will be offered in three different trims called L,
LX and LXi. All come standard with seven-passenger seating and a 3.5-inch
digital display in the instrument cluster. Buyers will also find a six speaker
audio system, active noise cancellation technology and a 7-inch Uconnect
infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
An assortment of options will be available including
the SafetyTec Group which adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross path detection
and ParkSense rear parking assist. Customers can also order the Cold Weather
Group, a Stow ‘n Place roof rack and a rear seat entertainment system with an
overhead DVD player.
The fleet-only Voyager LXi comes nicely equipped
with leatherette seats, Stow ‘n Go second row seats and a Stow ‘n Place roof
rack. The model also has an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage
door opener and a security alarm. Rounding out the highlights are a remote
starting system and retractable sunshades in the second row.
All Voyagers will be powered by a 3.6-liter
Pentastar V6 engine that produces 287 hp and 355
Nm of torque. It is connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Chrysler didn’t mention pricing, but the model
should start around US$ 27,000.
