These two 2020 Karma Revero GT models have been
wrapped to honor the iconic P-51 Mustang, a single engine fighter plane built
in 1940 in Inglewood, California. Both cars feature wraps and calipers inspired
by the aircraft’s red, yellow, grey and silver designs. The two hybrid-electric vehicles
have embarked on a 4,828 km journey at goldRush Rally Eleven, and
were even on display this past weekend at Fontainebleau Miami Beach in Florida.
Much like with the P-51, Karma also wished for the
2020 Revero to feature excellent speed and an extended range. The four-door GT
will hit 96 km/h)from a standstill in just 4.5 seconds, nearly a full
second quicker than its predecessor.
It also comes with a new TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder
in-line engine supplied by BMW, meant to power an on-board electric generator
and enhance overall performance. Meanwhile, its dual electric motors put down
536 PS, whereas the 28kWh mid-mounted lithium-ion battery generates up
to 128 km of all-electric range, and up to 579 km in
total combined with the on-board generator.
The two specially-wrapped pre-production Revero GTs
will be on the road for a total of nine days, driving from Miami, Florida to
Austin, Texas. As the direct successor to the old Fisker Karma, the new 2020 Revero
GT wishes to position itself as a Tesla Model S rival, yet its powertrain, as
you can see, is not fully electric. However, Karma Automotive claims that by
using an internal combustion engine as a range extender, the vehicle will offer
its buyers “the best of both worlds – extended EV capability without range
anxiety.”
