Mercedes-Benz has revealed that the 2020 AMG G63 is getting an AMG Trail package in the United States. The announcement was made in a lengthy press release published by the German car manufacturer late last week. Details were scant with it simply stating that the optional AMG Trail Package would come with all-terrain tires.

Car and Driver got in contact with a spokesperson from Mercedes-AMG who confirmed that the G63 is indeed getting an off-road tire option in the U.S. Mercedes-Benz hasn’t published images of the G63’s all-terrain tires but the German configuration tool apparently allows users to select the off-road tires in question. Curiously, the G-Class was completely absent from the configurator in Germany when we went looking for it.

The AMG Trail package offered in overseas markets includes a number of distinct parts alongside the new wheels and tires. For example, there is underbody protection, all-weather rubber floor mats, and a set of rear flaps. European models also get heat-insulating tinted glass but the U.S. isn’t expected to receive this same feature. Prices in Germany for the package set customers back the equivalent of US$ 3517 and a price point around that mark can be expected for the AMG Trail package when it goes on sale in the United States.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the most capable off-roaders currently on sale but the sad truth is that the fast majority of them, particularly the AMG-badged models, will never see anything other than smooth tarmac and perhaps the odd pebble or two. With the Trail package, buyers will at least know that they have the tires necessary to get a little more adventures.
