MINI is gearing up to unveil the 2020 Cooper SE on
July 9th and the company is trying to build up hype by releasing a new teaser
video. Dubbed “Charged with Passion,” the clip showcases a handful of
classic MINI models before providing a few glimpses of their upcoming electric
vehicle. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to see besides a charging port and the
familiar shape of the hatchback.
MINI didn’t say much about the model, but stated the
Cooper SE will have an inventive spirit and an iconic design. The company also
played up the eco aspects by saying customers can expect “peace of mind knowing
you’re not only helping make our roads quieter, and the air we breathe cleaner
– but your petrol station days are over, too.”
While MINI was tight-lipped on details, they’re
currently accepting pre-orders in a number of different counties including
Germany, France, Norway, Sweden and The Netherlands. Their website also
suggests the model will be offered in Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the
United States.
The Cooper SE will go into production in November
and previously spy photos have shown it will be distinguished by a fully
enclosed grille with a yellow stripe. The yellow theme will also be echoed on
the mirror caps and four-spoke alloy wheels.
Full details will be announced next month, but the
model is slated to have a 33 kWh lithium-ion battery which enables the car to
travel approximately 183 km on a single charge.
