Mitsubishi has announced the range details of the
updated ASX for the UK market,
where it’ll hit showrooms in September. The Japanese compact SUV, which
first went on sale back in 2009, went through one more facelift that brings it
in line with Mitsubishi’s latest models, such as the Eclipse Cross.
The redesign includes new sheet metal from the
windscreen forward, giving the 2020 ASX the company’s latest ‘Dynamic Shield’
front fascia, new 18-inch alloy wheels and a refreshed rear end with new LED
taillights.
The changes are less dramatic inside, where you get
piano black detailing, redesigned HVAC controls and a larger, eight-inch
infotainment system that now includes both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as
well as DAB radio.
One of the biggest changes in Mitsubishi’s third
global best-seller is the adoption of a new 2.0-liter, four-cylinder petrol
engine, which is the only option in the range. The new powertrain produces 147
HP and 195 Nm of torque and replaces the previous model’s
113 HP 1.6-liter.
The 2020 ASX will be available in FWD and AWD
versions, with the latter being available with a CVT transmission as an option.
Front-wheel drive variants of the Mitsubishi ASX need 10.2 seconds for the
0-100 km/h, while the AWD with the CVT require an extra 2 seconds. Top
speed in all versions is 190 km/h.
The new Mitsubishi ASX also comes with an enhanced
range of driver assistance systems, including Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change
Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Customers will get to choose between two
trim levels, Design and Dynamic, with pricing to be announced closer to the
SUV’s launch date.
