Skoda is prepping an updated version of
reasonably-sized people hauler Kodiaq, which is expected to feature mild styling
changes to both front and rear ends, as well as improved on-board tech. The
2020 Kodiaq will be unveiled either next year or by the end of 2019, if we’re
lucky.
While Skoda have been known to not shy away from
bringing substantial modifications to front fascia designs in the past when it
came to mid-cycle facelifts, this particular prototype
doesn’t appear to feature any new designs, neither front nor rear.
The overall grille shape and headlight graphics
appear unchanged, as do the taillights, although to be fair, they are pretty
well camouflaged, so we can’t speak with any certainty. There’s also the
possibility of Skoda playing possum, using old bits to mask whatever changes
may be coming to the Kodiaq – it’s a very common practice in the car industry.
As for its interior and powertrain configurations,
improved tech and efficiency is to be expected, with the RS version staying on
as the nameplate’s flagship model. In Europe, the Skoda Kodiaq is a
direct rival to the likes of the VW Tiguan Allspace, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa
Fe, Peugeot 5008 and the rest of the non-premium mid-size SUV segment.
