Aston Martin is not the only automaker to enter a car in this year’s Gumball 3000. Alfa Romeo jumped on the
bandwagon too with a Stelvio Quadrifoglio that features a very special livery.
Sure, one may argue that the Stelvio is not a supercar and therefore has no
place in the Gumball 3000 but apparently, the organizers are okay with it. The one-off Stelvio Quadrifoglio
features custom paintwork created by the Alfa Romeo Design Centre that pays
tribute to the special livery seen on the Fiorano circuit on February 14 during
the shakedown of Alfa Romeo Racing team’s C38 Formula 1 car.
The Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s livery reminds of the
race car’s San Valentino paintwork due to the alternating cloverleaves. The
Volcano Black bodywork is ornamented with a grey cloverleaf motif that covers
the entire surface. The underlying pattern is adorned with fluorescent green
decorations including a large snake on the side panels, Alfa Romeo lettering on
the rear window and front fenders, and the brand logo covering the entire roof.
The 20-inch alloys are painted in the same green
hue, as is the Alfa Romeo logo on the black brake calipers. Another unique
touch is given by the burnished taillights. There are no changes to the
powertrain which consists of a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces a
respectable 510 PS. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio one-off won’t be Alfa Romeo’s only
contribution to this year’s Gumball 3000. The automaker will host an on-track
experience session on June 12 at the Balocco Proving Ground, as part of the
stage from Venice to Monaco.
The complete on-road adventure involves over one
hundred supercars, prototypes, and one-offs that will cover 4,828
km on roads open to traffic. This year’s event starts on June 7 in the Greek
island of Mykonos and ends in Ibiza on June 15.
