A series of images reportedly showing the
production-spec Audi e-tron GT have appeared online at the E-Tron Forum. These images allegedly come from
the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office and show that the road-going
e-tron GT will look virtually identical to the concept car. In fact, the
resemblance is so striking, we’re not entirely convinced these designs actually
show the production car and not last year’s concept.
Viewed from the front, you will see the exact same
fascia, complete with a faux grille and intakes to help cool the brakes. The
side profile also shows the same wheels as the concept and doors without any
visible handles. Similarities between the production car and the concept
continue at the rear, with the same taillights and diffuser.
Upon unveiling the car at last year’s Los Angeles
Auto Show, Audi design boss Mark Lichte said that the design of the concept was
largely ready for production, although the finished product likely won’t be
presented to the world until the second half of 2020.
The Audi e-tron GT has similar proportions to the A7
Sportback and is based on the same platform as the Porsche Taycan. This means
it uses the same 800-volt system as the Taycan, which enables its battery to be
charged to 80 per cent capacity in around 20 minutes. Audi quotes the concept
as having an output of 582 HP and claims that it will accelerate to 100
km/h in 3.5 seconds before reaching 200 km/h in 12 seconds and
topping out at an electronically limited 240 km/h.
