Now that BMW has a full-size SUV on offer, coming to
terms with that notion means accepting luxury over anything that even remotely
resembles an ultimate driving machine. However, opting for the M Sport
package might make you feel a little better, since it gives the X7 a slightly
more dynamic appearance thanks to the more visually-aggressive bumpers and
black exterior trim rather than its usual chrome bits.
While this particular vehicle hails from Abu Dhabi
Motors in the Middle East, U.S. buyers can purchase the xDrive40i as the
entry-level model of the X7 range from US$ 73,900. Getting the M Sport package
means paying an extra US$ 4,350, while the Individual Fine Wood Ash Gran trim with
High Gloss Silver visible inside this SUV is another US$ 1,080.
As for the upholstery, that looks to us like Tartufo
Extended Merino leather, which in the X7 is a US$ 1,000 optional extra. The BMW X7 xDrive40i is powered
by a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine, producing 335 HP and 450 Nm of torque. In a straight line, it can accelerate
from zero to 96 km/h in 5.8 seconds (0-100 in 6.1 sec), and max out at 245 km/h. As you can see, it’s not exactly slow, despite weighing
nearly 2.4 tonnes.
Of course, for a more effortless experience behind
the wheel, we recommend either the xDrive50i version or the recently announced
X7 M50i, which has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine, good for 523 HP and 749 Nm of torque.
