Chinese EV startup Byton has released new photos
displaying the high-tech digital cockpit of its first production model, the
M-Byte crossover. Compared to the previous images shown at the CES earlier this year,
the new ones go into greater detail, revealing other key interior elements
besides the wraparound dashboard that measures a gigantic 48 inches across.
Those include the other two screens, a 7-inch Driver
Tablet flanked by physical buttons mounted at the center of the steering wheel,
and the 8-inch Byton Central Touchpad placed between the front seats. It will be interesting to see how
the driver can cope with the three sizeable displays, one of which is as big as
seven tablets, without being distracted. Why, even the one on the steering
wheel is bigger than the main infotainment screens found in most vehicles
today.
The latter serves as one of the main interfaces the
driver can use to configure the vehicle and interact with the 48-inch Shared
Experience Display (SED) and is flanked by physical buttons for the cruise
control system as well as the audio system. There’s also a home button for the
display and an up/down switch to toggle between the screens. Fortunately, the
screen does not rotate with the steering wheel.
As for the 8-inch Touch Pad placed in front of the
center armrest, it gives the front passenger the possibility of controlling the
SED and also features controls for the climate control system and seats. Also
present onboard )though not shown in the photos) are rear-seat entertainment
screens that also share content with the SED.
Finally, one of the images provides a close look at
the transmission controls of the Byton M-Byte placed on the dashboard
underneath the central air vents. Overall, Byton claims the cabin “creates a
comfortable and warm atmosphere similar to a high-end living room.” Just
remember that you’re actually driving, so you don’t want to relax too much…
