Charge Automotive,
a UK-based EV start-up company, announce the debut of its electric Ford Mustang
at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The company aims to produce 499 examples of
the battery electric Mustang, which will use officially licensed bodyshells of
the iconic 1960s muscle car. Prices start from £ 300,000 -that’s US$ 381k in
current exchange rates.
The all-electric
muscle car will come fitted with a pair of electric motors providing a combined
469 hp and 1200 Nm of torque, drawing their energy from a
64kWh battery pack. The components of the electric powertrain are supplied by
Arrival.
Charge Automotive
claims that their electric Ford Mustang is capable of a 0-97 km/h in 4 seconds
flat, before hitting 239 km/h flat out. As for the driving range, 321 km on a full charge is quoted, along with a 50kW DC fast-charging
compatibility.
The company hasn’t
revealed yet any images of the interior but we do get a glimpse of it in their
short teaser video. Charge’s electric Mustang will offer a high-end bespoke
cabin featuring state-of-the-art components and a personalized digital
interface.
With their EV take
on the Ford Mustang, Charge Automotive joins the world of electric classic cars
that even includes major manufacturers like Aston Martin, which offers an
electric conversion for classic DB6 Volantes, as well as Jaguar and its
EV-powered E-Type.
Reservations are
now open for Charge’s electric Ford Mustang, with the company planning to start
deliveries as soon as this September.
