The Mahindra Thar 700 (Mahindra Thar Signature Edition) has been finally launched, at INR 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom,
Delhi). The limited-edition model is almost INR 50,000 more expensive compared
to the regular model (CRDe 4WD).
The Mahindra Thar 700 is an exclusive commemorative
edition of the current-gen Mahindra Thar. As depicted in its name, its sales
are limited to 700 units. It is available in the familiar Napoli Black colour
and an exclusive Aquamarine colour. It features 15-inch five-spoke alloy wheels
from the previous-gen Scorpio and the Marksman, a 'Signature Badge' with Anand
Mahindra's signature on it on the right-hand side front fender, new decals the
bonnet and the sides and D-sat silver colour finish on the front bumper. On the
inside, the Thar 700 is plusher with leatherette covers with Thar logo on the
backrests of the front seats.
The Mahindra Thar 700 employs the 2.5L CRDe diesel
engine which pushes out a maximum power of 107 PS and 247 Nm of peak
torque. The transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a
Borgwarner transfer case is standard. The special edition model is safer than
the regular model because it includes ABS, which is a mandatory safety feature
from 1 April 2019. Driver airbag, driver and passenger seat belt reminder and
rear parking sensors will be mandatory from 1 July 2019, and so, Mahindra hopes
to sell all the produced units before this deadline.
Mahindra is currently working on the second-gen
Thar, and it will most likely display this model at Auto Expo 2020.
