The 570S is a pretty hardcore machine in stock
guise, but the folks from McLaren Special Operations (MSO) improve on it with a
number of offerings. The latest one is called the “MSO Defined High Downforce Kit” and
does exactly what the name says: it increases downforce, thus making the car
more stable at high speeds. The kit consists of two main elements, a big, fixed
rear wing made of carbon fiber, and underbody guide vanes.
McLaren’s in-house tuner says the wing works the
airflow to generate additional downforce while the guide vanes located under
the front of the vehicle filter the air that passes beneath the car to reduce
drag. The vanes channel air away from the rear diffuser and force it to exit
below the doors, thus creating a low-pressure zone at the front of the car to
balance the increased downforce from the rear wing.
The High Downforce Kit is said to add an impressive
75 kg of extra downforce. While that helps increase high-speed
stability, it also “leaves the characteristically agile dynamics of the Sports
Series firmly intact during lower speed driving,” according to MSO.
Finished in Gloss Visual Carbon Fiber, the wing also
improves the aesthetics of the 570S and 570S Spider — it’s not available for
the McLaren 570GT, though, most likely due to the latter’s different rear end
design. Each side features contrasting end plates with Silver Chromatic MSO
branding and is supported by two pylons finished in High Gloss Black with
Palladium Grey inserts, while it also incorporates the third brake light.
