AMG boss Tobias
Moers has already confirmed that in one and a half years, every AMG except for
the 45-Series will get an electrified powertrain. And one of the first to head
down this lane is, reportedly, the GT 4-Door Coupe.
According to
Autocar, it should bear the AMG GT 73 4Matic moniker, which was recently
trademarked by the automaker. The British publication claims that spy
photographers spotted a mystery prototype was driven away in complete silence,
which means that it has the ability to operate on electricity alone, probably
for short periods of time. When the V8 kicks in, though, the GT 73 will go from
zero-emissions to full-blown bruiser in no time at all.
The top-of-the-line
GT 63 S pushes out 639 PS and 900 Nm of torque
and needs 3.2 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h. Brabus has already
tuned its V8 to 800 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque,
and they have dropped the 0-100 km/h time to 2.9 seconds. With the
instant response and extra torque of the electric motor, the GT 73 should be
even faster than that!
A rival to the
likes of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, whose hybrid powertrain
develops only 680 PS and 850 Nm of torque, the GT
73 is expected to launch sometime next year. As for the fire power, it will be
almost identical to that in the AMG GT Concept, Moers confirmed.
