The new VW Polo (facelift) has been spied sans camouflage. The
launch of the new Polo carline could be just days or weeks away now, as it has
started reaching dealerships and test mules have shed camouflage.
The new VW Polo will sport minor cosmetic changes,
courtesy new front bumper that looks sharper, new honeycomb grille and
Euro-style tail lamps. The alloy wheels don't appear to be new. Whether
interior changes will be there is yet to be known, but safety upgrades are a
given, in order to comply with the AIS-145 safety norms that come into effect
on 1 July 2019. Dual-front airbags and ABS safety features are already
standard. Driver and front passenger seat belt reminder and speed alert system
will be introduced with the second facelift, and rear parking sensors will be
made standard.
Volkswagen sells the old Polo with a 1.0-litre MPI
naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.2-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine
and a 1.5L TDI turbocharged diesel engine. These BS-IV engines will likely be
collectively replaced by a new, BS-VI 1.0L TSI turbocharged petrol engine,
which will be locally manufactured. What remains to be seen is that will the
company bring the cosmetic and mechanical updates together or not.
The old VW Polo is priced from INR 5,71,500
(ex-showroom). The new model could be slightly pricier.
