The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio (codename: Z101) is
currently undergoing rigorous testing, and it has been spied a number of times
already in the last few weeks. Now, new spy shots clicked from the closest
distance and giving the clearest view of the future model so far have surfaced
online.
The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio test mule seen here is
fully covered in camouflage from bumper to bumper. The prototype is devoid of
the production-ready lights, but it can be easily figured out that the next-gen
Mahindra Scorpio will be nothing like the current-gen model. The new Scorpio
will have an evolutionary design, which will be different from the present. At
the front, its windscreen appears to be more inclined, and even the back-glass
is more rakish. The outgoing model has an upright stance, while the all-new
model has a hunched-back look.
The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio features a new radiator
grille with taller vertical slats. The lower grille and bumper also have a new
look. The headlamps will likely be rectangular units. Overall, the next-gen
model appears to have grown slightly larger in size, and also its stretched
rear overhang hints at more space for the last row of seats. Speaking of
interior changes, the upcoming Scorpio will have an all-new dashboard layout
which will be much taller and wider than that of the current model. Also, it
will have new vertical central air vents, and also a new touchscreen
infotainment system. Other cabin fittings such as new steering wheel, gear
knob, control stalks and instrument cluster may be carried over from the
Marazzo.
The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio has been conceptualized
and shaped at Mahindra North American Technical Center (MNATC). Its R&D, on
the other hand, has been done at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. The
next-gen Scorpio will be powered by an all-new BS-VI 2.0-litre diesel engine
this will replace the current 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which was also 80
kg heavier. The new 2.0-litre engine is expected to churn out 160 PS of maximum
power. The transmission duties will be performed by a 6-speed manual unit or a
6-speed automatic unit. A 4WD system is expected as an option.
The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio could be priced from
around INR 10-11 lakh (ex-showroom). It could debut at Auto Expo 2020.
