Renault has used the French Grand Prix to introduce
the new Clio Cup, Clio Rally and Clio RX. Based on the Clio RS Line, the
customer racing cars have a familiar design but are distinguished by a
roof-mounted scoop and a roll cage. Each model is slightly different,
but all come equipped with a non-adjustable Bos suspension and a limited slip
differential. The cars also have an upgraded cooling system and an FIA
homologated fuel cell.
Power comes from a turbocharged 1.3-liter
four-cylinder engine that produces between 168 hp and 177 hp. The engine also develops between 280 Nm and 320 Nm of torque, depending on regulations. Regardless of the output,
all models are equipped with a Sadev five-speed sequential transmission that
features a Sachs clutch.
While the cars share a lot in common, Renault says
each one is a proper race car that has been designed specifically for the task
at hand. Speaking of which, there are three sets of wheels including 15-inchers
for gravel, 16-inchers for asphalt and 17-inchers for Cup racing.
The commonality between the models also has an
interesting perk as Renault says they will offer conversion kits which will
enable owners to transform their car from one model into another. Renault
describes this as an economic solution that will enable customers to experience
multiple forms of racing.
Renault will release more details in the future, but
the models are slated to go into production in October and be ready for the
2020 racing season.
