After months of training and more than 2,000 hours
of intensive work, Skoda’s apprentices have finally completed the new Student
Car. It’s called the Mountiaq, is based on the Kodiaq mid-size SUV and is just
a concept that doesn’t preview a production model.
Converted into a pickup truck, the Mountiaq has
seating for two and an open bed, with illumination and a hidden compartment. It
also features a number of custom panels, a fully-functioning tailgate,
roll-over and underbody protection, new bumpers, widened and shortened doors
and redesigned fog lamps.
Finished in Sunset Orange, the Mountiaq gets a few
modifications that enhance its ability off the beaten path. The front bull-bar,
winch, snorkel, roof-mounted light bar, 290 mm ground clearance -100
mm more than the Kodiaq Scout – and 17-inch Rockstar II wheels with
off-road tires, are other defining features. Furthermore, the brand’s logo on
the bonnet has a lighting effect, the engine bay is illuminated and the doors
project the Skoda lettering on the road upon opening.
Compared to the Kodiaq, the Mountiaq is 302 mm longer, 123 mm wider and 34 mm taller. The 2,788 mm wheelbase has been shortened by 3 mm and the study tips the scales
at 2,450 kg. Powering it is a 2.0-liter TSI petrol four that pushes
out 190 PS.
The interior has a few upgrades as well, such as a
glowing Skoda logo in the roof lining, special embedding in the front
seatbacks, orange highlights that bring the exterior shade into the cockpit,
integrated refrigerator and Columbus infotainment with 320-watt speakers,
2,000-watt amplifier and 2,000-watt subwoofer. The show car comes with two
walkie-talkies, too, so that the driver can be better guided on challenging
terrains by their companion.
