Skoda announced and teased a
new concept vehicle for China, the Vision GT. The design study has debuted
recently at the Shenzhen Auto Show in China, previewing a new SUV for the local
market. Given the GT moniker, Skoda’s fifth SUV will be a coupe-like crossover,
similar to the Kodiaq GT. In the end, the Vision GT Concept will morph into the
Kamiq GT production model before the end of this year.
Based on the Chinese-market Skoda Kamiq which uses
the venerable PQ34 platform, the Kamiq GT will be an affordable SUV-coupe. As the Vision GT suggests, the
Kamiq GT will feature a more distinctive design compared to the regular Kamiq.
The styling is inspired by European Skoda models including the Scala and the Kamiq,
particularly when it comes to the shape of the headlights and taillights.
Besides the sleek light units and the sloping
roofline, the Vision GT also features sporty details such as the dual-color
wheels filling the flared wheel arches, and the aggressive bumpers featuring a
big grille at the front and a sizeable diffuser at the rear.
Other neat touches include the pop-out door handles,
the black roof, and satin aluminum trim on the outside. Obviously, one should
not forget the fact that this is a concept vehicle and that its design will be
toned down on the road to production — although, not too much, we hope.
The interior design remains a secret for now, but we
imagine it won’t be that different from the regular Kamiq sold in China. As for
the powertrain, the logical move would be for the Kamiq GT to use a 1.5-liter
naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine that makes 111 PS and
150 Nm of torque. In the Kamiq, that engine is mated as standard to
an automatic transmission.
