Police in the Australian state of Victoria have just
added a Tesla Model X Long Range to their Highway Patrol fleet. It is not uncommon for police
forces Down Under to utilize eye-catching performance vehicles, but most of the
times they are only used for promotional purposes and displayed during
community events. However, this Model X is actually a fully-functional patrol
car and will be used in a handful of regions across the state.
The exterior of the all-electric SUV has been
covered in an eye-catching blue, white, and fluorescent yellow livery. There is
also a light bar on the roof, various red and blue flashing lights incorporated
into the front fascia and even colored LEDs on the edges of the rear “falcon”
wing doors. There will be absolutely no mistaking this Model X for any other on
local roads.
Tesla is working with Victoria Police and a host of
third-party suppliers to get the SUV equipped with all the latest equipment
needed for patrol duties. Police forces across Australia use a selection of different vehicles
for their respective fleets, including the Kia Stinger, VW Passat, BMW
5-Series, BMW X5, Chrysler 300C, Holden Commodore, and others.
