Renault has launched the new Duster in India with prices starting at INR 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The once-again-facelifted first-gen Duster comes with a slew of cosmetic and feature updates and is available in a total of nine variants – three petrols and six diesels.

Starting off with the design tweaks, the new Renault Duster features refreshed front grille with chrome garnish flanked by projector headlamps with LED DRLs. A redesigned front bumper, a new sculpted bonnet and a higher bonnet line have been introduced to make the SUV future-proof from stricter pedestrian-protection norms. The other exterior updates include new front and rear skid plates, new 17-inch alloy wheels, alloys and plastic cladding on the tailgate.

Furthermore, the new Renault Duster features prominent changes on the inside. It has new faux aluminium and piano black elements on the dashboard, rectangular AC vents on the centre console, a new steering wheel and new dual-tone black and dark brown colour scheme. Safety features such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD and BA are standard, while the automatic and AWD trims get additional features such as ESC and hill-start functionality.

The engine options are the same as those of the old model. One is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol unit which delivers 106 PS and 142 Nm of torque. This engine comes with an option of either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-step CVT. The other engine is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel unit which is available in two different states of tune: 85 PS/200 Nm and 110 PS/245 Nm. The 85 PS version is available with only a 5-speed manual gearbox,  while the 110 PS version can be had with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AMT.

The diesel-AMT combination is available in the new model in only the top-spec RxZ variant. In the old model, it was available in the mid-spec RxS variant as well. As a result, to get the diesel-AMT combination, one has to shell out INR 60,000 more. The Renault Duster competes with the Hyundai Creta, the Nissan Kicks, the Renault Captur and the Maruti S-cross. Soon, the Renault Triber will be launched in India.
