Toyota
Hilux has been the Australian best-seller, and has now received a considerable
upgrade in its safety package. The 2019 Hilux range for the Australian market
now gets autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection and daytime
detection, in addition to adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with
steering assist and road sign monitoring.
The additional safety equipment throughout the Hilux
range – from the AUD 21,865 Hilux WorkMate to the range-topping
AUD 64,490 Hilux Rugged X – is offset by a price increase ranging
from AUD 800 to AUD 875.
The base WorkMate variant now gets the updated
instrument cluster which integrates the 4.2-inch multi-information display
(MID) that is standard on all other variants for its market, and moves to a
Hi-Rider configuration, with the 4×2 single-cab discontinued, along with the
double-cab 2.4 litre turbodiesel.
Contenders in the pick-up truck market down under
already equipped with AEB include the Ford Ranger, Mercedes-Benz X-Class,
Ssangyong Musso and the Mitsubishi Triton.
