Unveiled at the 2019 New York Auto Show, the 2020
Acura TLX PMC Edition is arriving this week at select dealerships across the
United States. You may dismiss it as yet another limited edition with no substantial
modifications but you’d be wrong. You see, PMC stands for Acura’s Performance
Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio, the place where the NSX supercar is
built by hand.
So what does the 2020 TLX PMC have in common with
the NSX? Well, it’s handcrafted in the same factory by the same master
technicians as the NSX. According to Acura, this ensures the highest quality as
each TLX receives the same quality control routine as the supercar after the
hand assembly process. That includes a dyno check, paint inspection, rough-road
simulation, and water leak test.
Sitting at the top of the TLX lineup, the PMC Edition
combines the premium features of the Advance Package with the sporty character
of A-Spec. Limited to 360 individually numbered units, the 2020 TLX PMC Edition
features a vibrant Valencia Red Pearl paint that uses nano pigment paint
technology previously exclusive to the NSX.
Actually, to protect the paint during shipping, the
PMC Edition is wrapped in a specially designed car cover and transported to
Acura dealers via enclosed, single-car carriers. Besides the unique Valencia
Red Pearl paint, exclusive exterior features to include the gloss black 19-inch
wheels, roof, and door handles, body-colored grille surround, and dark chrome
4-inch dual exhaust finishers.
Inside, the PMC Edition brings black Milano leather
seats with Alcantara inserts, black piping and red stitching for the seats,
door panels, and center armrest, as well as a numbered serial plaque on the
lower console. There’s also a steering wheel from the TLX A-Spec featuring
perforated black leather, red stitching, and metal-finished paddle shifters.
The limited edition TLX is powered by the same 290
hp 3.5-liter direct-injected i-VTEC V6 and features the same torque-vectoring
Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system as regular models. All than
extra gear, attention to detail an exclusivity do come at a price US$ 50,945, to be exact, including a US$ 1,995 destination and handling fee.
