The 2020 GMC Acadia features a new turbocharged
2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a report says the mill will also power the
2020 Chevrolet Blazer. According to Car & Driver, the engine will come standard on 2LT
and 3LT versions of the 2020 Blazer. It produces 230 hp and 350 Nm of torque.
The new engine won’t replace the naturally aspirated
2.5-liter four-cylinder, which develops 193 hp and 255 Nm of torque, as that mill will be the only option on the Blazer L and
LT. However, the turbocharged 2.0-liter will be available with all-wheel drive.
That’s notable as all-wheel drive wasn’t even offered as an option on models
equipped with the naturally aspirated engine.
Buyers looking for something more powerful will be
still able to get the 3.6-liter V6 which develops 308 hp and 366 Nm of torque. However, they’ll have to pay for it as the
publication says the V6 will only be available the range-topping RS and Premier
variants. It’s a pricey proposition as 2019 Blazer RS starts at US$ 41,795 while
the Blazer Premier costs an additional US$ 2,100.
The 2020 Chevrolet Blazer will arrive at dealerships
in October and additional information will be announced closer to launch. While
fuel economy figures remain unconfirmed for the new engine, GM has previously
said the mill has tripower valvetrain technology and an active fuel management
system which will deactivate two-cylinders at light engine loads to improve
fuel efficiency. The engine will also be connected to a standard nine-speed
automatic transmission.
