The all-new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe
is finally here allowing us to focus our attention on upcoming variants of
America’s mid-engine sports car. The first to arrive will be the 2020 Corvette Convertible and
Chevrolet offered the first look during the live
presentation of the 2020 Corvette Stingray coupe.
Towards the end of the video that you can watch
below, just after the 58-minute mark, Chevrolet teased the Corvette Convertible
in a quick succession of photos. We’ve managed to take a few screenshots so
we’re able to show you what the drop-top version will look like.
Right off the bat, there are some clear differences
compared to the coupe model with a targa top. The main modification regards the
rear engine cover which has been replaced by a new one featuring two aero
cowls, one behind each seat. Between them there’s a retractable rear window and further back we
can also spot a vent grille necessary for the engine cooling. Interestingly,
there’s no fixed rear wing as on the coupe but there are some cutouts that
could indicate the presence of a retractable spoiler.
None of the photos show the car with the roof up but
it most likely folds down automatically under the new cover behind the cockpit
as opposed to the coupe’s hardtop which has to be manually removed and stowed
in the cargo compartment — or left at home if you believe in the accuracy of
weather predictions. The C8 is expected to feature a soft top just like its predecessor
for weight-saving purposes.
By now you’ve noticed the Stingray emblem on the back of the car, which means the
Convertible will adopt the same 6.2-liter LT2 V8 making 490 hp and 630 Nm of torque in standard guise. With the optional Z51
Performance Package, the figures are bumped to 495 hp and 637 Nm of torque.
GM did not reveal a release date for the Corvette C8
Convertible but given that it confirmed the drop top as a 2020 model we should
expect it to arrive in the coming months.
