The world’s best-selling sports coupe for the fourth year in a row, the Ford Mustang, is turning 55 years old. As a result, the automaker is celebrating its anniversary with the introduction of the Mustang55 based on the V8 model in Europe.

Launching next month, the special edition is available in fastback and convertible body styles and adds bespoke styling cues. These include the addition of black stripes, two-tone front upper and lower grilles, 5.0 front wing badging in Pillar Black with Colorado Red used for the decimal and gloss black 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Mustang55 Fastback adds a black painted roof, whereas the Shadow Black models get silver stripes. Convertibles, on the other hand, will come with a black cloth roof. Complementing the exterior look is the boot lid spoiler in Pillar Black, which is available as an option. Inside, all Mustang55 models boast carbon fiber effect dashboard inserts, leather on the center console and knee bolster with grey stitching that’s also replicated in the floor mats, and Alcantara. Right-hand drive models will add aluminum dashboard inserts, Ebony, Ceramic or Russet leather seats and leather on the gearshift knob.

These add up to the standard heated and cooled front seats, SYNC3 infotainment system, B&O sound system, remote start for automatic models, remote door lock and unlock and vehicle locator, among others. The Mustang55 builds on the GT, retaining the 5.0-liter, naturally aspirated V8, rated at 450 PS, connected to a six-speed manual or a ten-speed automatic transmission.

For the 2020MY, Ford has also updated the Mustang EcoBoost fastback and convertible models, which now get enhancements inspired by the Shelby GT350 and GT500. For the base models, these include a Magnetic Grey California grille that incorporates the tri-bar pony badge first seen on the 1965 Mustangs, Magnetic Grey side mirror caps and boot spoiler, black bonnet stripes and machined-finish 19-inch alloy wheels. The Mustang EcoBoost is now equipped with the standard Active Valve Performance Exhaust technology, which includes the Good Neighbor Mode.

New colors, such as Iconic Silver, Lucid Red, Twister Orange and Grabber Lime have also been introduced across the range, alongside the FordPas Connect that turns the car into a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 10 devices. The Mustang Bullitt will live on for the second year in Europe, as demand for the 460 PS special edition model that celebrates the movie Bullitt with Steve McQueen continues to be strong.
