German Mercedes is somewhat late with the presentation of its ambiguous crossover – it is a GLE Coupe, but as they say, better late than never. A brand new version of the luxurious mid-size crossover is preparing for the presentation, and this disguised prototype probably passed the final tests.

Captured on the Nurburgring racetrack, the prototype of the updated GLE Coupe crossover competed with its main rival in the class of coupe-like luxury SUVs – this is a Bavarian BMW X6. Competition in this segment is heating up, since the Porsche now has the Cayenne Coupe, the British Land Rover has the Range Rover Velar, and Audi has recently introduced the flagship Q8. Mercedes needs to thoroughly improve its product in order not to lose in customer demand.

Despite full camouflage, we have the feeling that the new GLE Coupe will look much smoother compared to the previous model. Of course, the crossover, with a sloping roof shape, does not claim to be the most beautiful car in the world, but an improvement over the predecessor is good news for us. Seeing the usual GLE and how its interior has changed dramatically in the new generation, you can be sure that the same story will happen with the coupe version – in particular, we are talking about a high-tech dashboard with two screens.

Almost all equipment and options will come from the standard GLE crossover, including the “soft” V8 hybrid engine that was introduced earlier this year. Also, the coupe-shaped novelty will receive a “charged” version of the AMG 63.
