The 2020 Volkswagen
Passat is up for grabs in the United Kingdom in three trim levels labelled SE,
SEL and R-Line, as well as the exclusive Passat Estate R-Line Edition that’s
limited to 150 units. Prices for the sedan begin at £ 27,630 for the base SE, which packs 17-inch alloy wheels, 6.5-inch infotainment system

a 1.6-liter diesel rated at 120 PS that’s hooked up to a
7-speed DSG.
In a few weeks, the
car will launch with the 150 PS 1.5-liter petrol unit,
available with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG, and will become the
new entry-level spec. The SEL can be had with the same 1.6-liter TDI, from
£ 29,430, the 190 PS 2.0-liter TSI, from 30,270, or the 190 PS 2.0-liter TDI, which
carries a £ 32,270 MSRP. Standard gear includes 17-inch wheels
with a different pattern, a larger, 8.0-inch infotainment screen, Voice
Control, tinted rear windows and Vienna leather seats.
The Passat R-Line
adds sports suspension, special exterior styling, 18-inch wheels, Nappa
leather, R-Line logos and decorative inserts, stainless steel pedals,
three-zone climate control, keyless entry and easy-open boot. The R-Line is
powered by the same 2.0-liter TSI and 2.0-liter TDI engines, and can be ordered
from £ 33,070. It’s also available with the brand’s 4Motion
all-wheel drive system, from £ 37,350.
Powering the R-Line
Edition Estate are the 272 PS 2.0-liter TSI or the 240 PS 2.0-liter TDI, both with all-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG as
standard. Equipment includes 19-inch alloys, Dynamic Chassis Control, LED
headlights and 9.2-inch infotainment system, while pricing starts at £ 43,350.
You can also
specify extras such as the panoramic sunroof, head-up display, Dynaudio premium
sound system or Trailer Assist. The latter is a semi-autonomous driving system
that combines the adaptive cruise control with road sign recognition, GPS and
lane assist, allowing the car to drive on its own up to 209 km/h,
where legal.
The Passat Alltrack
has also gone on sale, with a £ 39,185 price tag and is
available solely with the 190 PS 2.0-liter TDI, whereas the
Passat GTE plug-in hybrid will launch soon.
