BMW turned heads earlier this month when it revealed
a one-off pickup truck based around the X7. While the vehicle may have sparked
some hopes that BMW would follow Mercedes-Benz into the world of pickup trucks,
we think the Bavarian car manufacturer could do a better job of an X7 pickup
than it did and perhaps take some inspiration from Rain Prisk’s design.
BMW built the X7 pickup for its Motorrad Days event
but opted against designing it as a rugged off-roader and instead retained the
luxurious design of the standard X7 SUV and simply altered the rear. Not satisfied with what BMW
itself did, Rain Prisk started from scratch in making his own X7 pickup. The
first point of difference is the fact that it is a two-door rather than the
four-door which BMW created. Additionally, the pickup sits on a set of
beefed-up wheels and tires and has a ride-height better suited to off-roading.
One of the oddest elements of BMW’s X7 pickup are
the Cullinan-inspired taillights. Not only are they drastically different than
the lights you’ll find at the rear of a typical X7 but they are also at odds
with the overall design of the vehicle. Consequently, Rain Prisk ditched them
in favor of lights which more closely resemble those of the normal X7 SUV. A
pair of turn signals have also been installed on either side of the rear
window.
We don’t expect BMW to follow Mercedes-Benz into the
world of pickup trucks anytime soon but if it does, it would be wise to make
the vehicle a little more appealing to buyers who actually want to drive off
the beaten path.
