Launched alongside the BMW 740Le xDrive LCI is the
first-ever BMW X7, a 7-seater with the luxury of a 7 Series. The X7 sits on the brand’s CLAR
platform just like other new-generation BMW models. Unlike the G11 7 Series,
however, the X7 doesn’t come with the Carbon Core chassis reinforcement
technology. In that sense, the X7 closer related to the X5 than the 7 Series,
at least under the skin.
The visual impact of the X7 is as prominent as the 7
Series thanks to the large Kidney Grille and ultra slim headlamp housings.
Quite an in your face design but at least you mistaken this for an X5. Standard equipment for the
Malaysian market includes Design Pure Excellence exterior trim, BMW laser light
headlamps, 21-inch style 753 Bicolour light alloy wheels, soft close doors,
aluminium running board, roof rails and powered split tailgate.
Inside, the X7 is furnished with Vernasca leather
upholstery, high-gloss fine-wood trim, Glass gear selector, 5-zone automatic
climate control, panoramic glass roof Sky Lounge, BMW Live Cockpit Professional
12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, BMW Navigation system Professional
12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant
voice command, 464W 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system and Rear
Seat Entertainment Professional with two 10.2-inch touchscreen monitors.
The X7 in the xDrive40i guise is powered by a
3.0-litre turbocharged in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine pushing out 340 hp and
450 Nm of torque. Century sprint takes 6.1 seconds while top speed is rated at
245 km/h. An 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission, xDrive
all-wheel-drive and air suspension are standard items.
With the Driving Assistant Professional, the X7
comes equipped with Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane
Change Warning, Lane Keeping Assistant, Steering and Lane Control Assistant,
Lane Change Assistant and front collision braking which allows the X7 to drive
semi-autonomously when conditions allow.
The BMW X7 xDrive40i is offered in seven colours –
Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Artic Grey, Sophisto Grey, Phytonic Blue, Terra
Brown and Vermont Bronze. Buyers can also specify their X7 in either as a 7- or
6-seater. The latter being a 2:2:2 seating configuration.
