While it may not seem like we’re there yet on a
larger scale, automakers have already been at the sporty-looking SUV game for a
while now. The Cayenne is a perfect example, as it is undeniably a
Porsche-styled SUV, period. You can definitely see the Aventador
inside it waiting to break free, despite its size. In the near future, there
will also be a Ferrari SUV, but not before Ford comes out with a
Mustang-derived fully electric crossover of their own.
So where does that leave GM or FCA? Sure, the latter
already have the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to pat themselves on the back
with, but aside from its performance, the Trackhawk still looks like a regular
Grand Cherokee, albeit a little wider and meaner.
But what about something that’s derived from an
already established sports car, muscle car or supercar? Since Ford went with
the Mustang, we could argue that GM could easily go with the Camaro, or even the Corvette, for a more
performance-oriented people hauler. As for FCA? A Dodge Challenger-inspired
crossover makes the most sense…of the little sense that it makes – you get the
point.
Figuring out what such a vehicle might look like
isn’t exactly rocket science, especially after the folks at Kolesa already gave
it a go and came up with these renderings. Dare we say that from a front 3/4
angle, it doesn’t look that horrible. The rear however definitely needs more
work.
For the time being, we can rest assured knowing that
such a take on the Challenger isn’t even in a concept stage. However, we
definitely wouldn’t bet money on “this” conversation never having taken place
internally at FCA.
