Ford’s Ranger lineup in Australia has grown with the
addition of the new Sport Special Edition. The model slots between the XLS and
XLT 4×4 and carries an AUD 52,940 starting price with a manual
gearbox, or AUD 55,140 with the automatic.
The extra AUD 6,000 of value over the XLS
is represented by the visual updates and added tech. Thus, the new Ranger Sport
Special Edition comes with a True Red paintwork, joined by the Meteor Grey,
Arctic White, Shadow Black and Aluminum Metallic.
The look is contrasted by the black grille, side
mirror caps, door handles and 17-inch alloy wheels, compared to the XLS’
16-inch set. It also gets matte black sports bar and bedliner and side steps as
standard, along with the black rear bumper and ‘Sport’ tailgate decal. Autonomous Emergency Braking with
Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Aid with Lane Departure Warning and Driver
Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition and automatic high-beam headlights are standard.
Inside, the Ranger Sport is equipped with the SYNC3
package that packs an 8-inch touchscreen display, 4.2-inch digital instrument
cluster, DAB+ radio, sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate
control, reversing camera and keyless entry&go.
Power comes from a 3.2-liter TDCi diesel that kicks
out 200 PS and 470 Nm of torque. The unit is
matched to either a manual or an automatic transmission, both with six speeds,
and provides 3,500 kg of maximum towing capability.
