Order books have opened for the MG ZS EV in the United Kingdom, where the first 1,000 customers will get the electric crossover from £ 21,495, as well as a free home charging point, installation included.

Without the £ 3,500 Government Grant and matching MG EV Grant, the ZS EV Excite starts at £ 28,495, whereas the better equipped Exclusive version can be purchased from £ 30,495. The offer includes the latter model, too, which drops to £ 23,495 after the incentives.

The EV uses a front-mounted electric motor with 143 PS and 353 Nm of torque that gets its juice from a 44.5 kWh water-cooled, lithium-ion battery pack, with a WLTP range of 262 km. The battery has been mounted underneath the car and features rapid charging.

The ZS EV is MG’s most high-tech vehicle ever, sporting Advanced Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control, as part of the MG Pilot suite of driver assistance gear, offered as standard in both grades.

A sliding panoramic roof, 8-inch touchscreen display with sat-nav, smartphone integration, Bluetooth and DAB radio are also included. The vehicle boasts generous legroom and headroom, spacious boot and several storage spaces, and can handle some bulky loads, such as bike and pushchairs.

Design-wise, it sports special badging, new 17-inch alloy wheels and the distinctive star-rider grille with an integrated charging port. It is available in the new Pimlico Blue exterior shade, as well as three other colors. Deliveries will commence in September, but interested customers can secure one of the first 1,000 cars online by placing a £ 500 deposit.
