Roush’s supercharged 650 HP Nitemare F-150 Regular
Cab 4×4 pickup managed to accelerate from zero to 96 km/h in just 3.9
seconds, setting a world record for production trucks. The claim of “quickest production
truck ever produced” was made after the Roush team went through 0-60 mph
production vehicle test data published by leading U.S. automotive magazines as
of June of this year.
As for what makes the tuned F-150 so formidable in a
straight line, that would be its 5.0-liter V8 fitted with a ROUSHcharged TVS
R2650 supercharger, cat-back exhaust, optimized ECU and high-flow air filter
for a total output is 650 HP and 826 Nm of torque. But
that, according to the company, is not all.
Before the record run, two different configurations
of the Nitemare F-150 were tested. Both were run on a prepared drag strip in
Sport mode with their rear differentials locked (both of which are standard
user-selectable settings), a light fuel load, and stock Continental tires,
inflated to 32 pounds per square inch.
Initially, the production Nitemare SuperCrew pickup
hit 96 km/h in a record-setting 4.1 seconds. Then, an engineering test
truck (equivalent to a production Nitemare 4×4 Regular Cab model) broke through
the 4 second mark and completed the task in a very supercar-like 3.9 seconds.
