The 2019 Hyundai Elantra (facelift) has been spied
test in India on several occasions previously. A new report says that it will
be launched in the country in September. The mid-cycle update brings along
quite a few exterior changes. The new
Elantra carries noticeable design differences, so much so that it might be
mistaken for an all-new model. At the front, it flaunts a cascading grille
which sits above a sharper bumper with more pronounced outer ends, sleeker and
sharper, LED headlamps and repositioned fog lamps. Even the bonnet is a
redesigned unit, with new crease lines.
On the sides, the new Hyundai Elantra can be had
with 15-inch steel wheels or 15-, 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels globally, but in
India, 16-inch alloy wheels will be standard. In sync with the front-end
design, the rear section gets remastered combination lamps with sharper
graphics. The rear bumper obviously has been given a new design along with
re-positioned reverse lights. The licence plate has also been shifted to the
bumper. The tailgate design is also in a new design, and it features the model
name in block lettering.
Like in the old model, 152 PS 2.0-litre
four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol and 128 PS 1.6-litre diesel will be
engine options and 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic will be the
transmission choices. While the petrol engine will be upgraded to BS-VI, the
diesel engine will be discontinued by March 2020.
The Hyundai Elantra rivals the likes of Honda Civic,
Toyota Corolla Altis and the Skoda Octavia. Its prices currently range from INR
13.82-20.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will likely be increased with the
facelift.
