Six years after entering production, the current
4-Series is getting ready to be replaced by a new generation which is currently
in the testing phase, with a prototype of the Convertible spied testing at the
track recently.
With camo still covering a large portion of its
body, it’s tricky to spot the visual updates, although we can styling
influences from the latest 3-Series, as well as a grille inspired by the new
Z4. BMW has also opted to ditch the folding hard top in favor of a soft
one that will save weight and open up more boot space as well.
The entire dashboard layout, complete with the
center console and steering wheel, as well as the door panels and seats, will
be carried over from the 3-Series. It goes without saying that the new 4-Series
will come with all the latest tech, such as a digital instrument cluster,
head-up display, an advanced infotainment system and ambient lighting, to name
but a few. Reassuring users will be a wide range included in the Active Guard Plus
suite that’s standard on the latest 3-Series too.
Look no further than BMW’s premium compact sedan
when it comes to the engines, too, with most (if not all) of its turbocharged
four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel units carrying over. Finally, some
time after the 4-Series Convertible launches, likely next year, an iPerformance
plug-in hybrid will be added to the lineup.
