The Honda CBR250RR is heading towards its first
update in the next few months. A report from Vietnamese site Oxii blog says
that the 2020 Honda CBR250RR will have some new premium hardware, including a
quick shifter, slipper clutch and smart key.
The word on the street is also strong that the Honda
CBR250RR will undergo a significant amount of weight reduction with the MY2020
update. At present the motorcycle (ABS variant) tips the scales at 168 kg.
Powering the bike is a 249.7 cc parallel twin-cylinder mill. Coupled to a
6-speed gearbox, the engine produces 38.7 PS of power and 23.3 Nm of torque.
Besides that, the bike also has a throttle-by-wire system with an accelerator
position sensor.
Honda has fits the CBR250RR with an upside-down fork
up front and pro-link monoshock in the rear with 5-step adjustable preload. The
bike has a ground clearance of 145 mm and a seat height of 790 mm. This is the
only motorcycle in its segment to offer riding modes (Comfort, Sport and
Sport+). An additional quick shifter will help in making the offering sportier.
However, we expect Honda to use a uni-direction quick shifter to keep costs
under check.
The internal code of the present Honda CBR250RR is
K64A. Indonesian media had earlier revealed that the updated CBR250RR will be
codenamed K64J. The quarter-litre motorcycle competes with the Yamaha R25 and
the Kawasaki Ninja 250. The 2020 Honda CBR250RR could be unveiled later this year, possibly
at the Tokyo Motor Show. The 4-pot Kawasaki ZX-25R is expected to debut at the
same event.
