Honda has
given the Civic Si Coupe and Civic Si Sedan several updates for the 2020 model
year. The sporty models get subtle styling upgrades as well as more
responsive acceleration and the Honda Sensing suite of safety features as
standard.
Styling-wise, the updated models offer updated lower
bumper fog light housings which now feature gloss black surrounding trim and a
body color cross bar. The Honda “wing” grille crossbar has also been updated,
while the headlights are now multi-element LED lamps with a wider and longer
light beam.
2020 Civic Si models also receive new LED fog lights
and new matte black 18-inch wheels shod with all-season performance tires. In
addition, the Civic Si sedan gains a new lower bumper treatment echoing the new
front design. As for the interior, both Civic Si models feature updated sport
seats with red accents and new red trim highlighting the instrument panel.
While Honda did not touch the engine, it did make a
minor adjustment to the short-throw six-speed manual transmission which now
features a six percent shorter final-drive ratio. Honda says that gives the car
“improved acceleration feel.” The 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline
engine continues to deliver 205 hp and 260 Nm of peak torque.
For 2020, the Civic Si Coupe and Sedan offer the
Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive systems as standard
equipment. Those include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking
System (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System
(LKAS), and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure
Warning (LDW).
The pack also adds new automatic high beams for the
entire 2020 Civic lineup. Equally new for the 2020 model year is Active Sound
Control, which pumps fake engine sound through the speakers during aggressive
driving.
Arriving at U.S. Honda dealerships on September 6,
the 2020 Honda Civic Si Sedan and Coupe will have an identical starting price
of US$ 25,930, including a US$ 930 destination charge. That’s a US$ 735 increase over
the 2019 Honda Civic Si.
