Kawasaki has launched the 2020 Ninja 400 in Japan
for a price of JPY 7,12,800. The MY2020 update brings only
cosmetic changes. The company has also launched the 2020 Ninja 400 KRT Edition.
The new bike will be available from 1 September 2019.
The new colour options for the standard Kawasaki
Ninja 400 include ‘Metallic Spark Black/Metallic Matte Graphite Grey’ and
‘Pearl Blizzard White/Metallic Spark Black’. The KRT Edition was not offered in
2019 and the 2020 edition pays tribute to Kawasaki’s controversial win at this
year’s Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Road Race. It gets the same red colour near the
underbelly as the Ninja ZX-10RR run by Jonathan Ray and Leon Haslam. Besides
that, the KRT Edition Ninja 400 has a larger windscreen and a racing cowl to
cover the pillion seat. The colour option is named as ‘Lime Green/Ebony’.
At the heart of the Kawasaki Ninja 400 is a 398 cc
liquid-cooled, parallel-twin, DOHC mill. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, the
engine can produce 48 PS of power and 38 Nm of torque. That’s 1 PS less than
the Ninja 400 retailed in India and Europe. The powerplant is supported by a
slipper clutch. The Kawasaki Ninja 400 has a claimed fuel consumption rating of
24.8 km/l. The bike tips the scales at 167 kg and has a ground clearance of 140
mm. The seat height is an accessible 785 mm.
The 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 400 is suspended over
conventional telescopic fork up front and a bottom link monoshock in the rear.
The braking duties are overseen by a 310 mm petal disc in the front with
dual-piston callipers. The rear wheel is anchored by 220 mm petal unit with
dual-piston callipers. Ninja 400 gets 17-inch wheels and is shod with 110/70
section rubber in the front and 150/60 unit in the rear.
