Mercedes-AMG unveiled the GLE 53 earlier this year
and now we’re getting a glimpse of the upcoming coupe variant. Snapped on the back of a trailer,
the high-performance crossover has a Panamericana grille which is flanked by a
set of familiar headlights. Further below, we can see a sporty bumper that
appears identical to the one used on the GLE 53.
While the front end largely carries over, bigger
changes occur aft of the A-pillar. As you can see, the crossover coupe adopts a
more rakish windscreen, sportier side skirts and new doors. Of course, the
biggest change is the sloping roofline and compact third quarter windows.
Out back, there’s a sporty liftgate with an
integrated rear spoiler. The model also has a ventilated fascia, a prominent
diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system. Last but not least, the model
rides on lightweight alloy wheels that are backed up by a high-performance
braking system.
Like the standard model, the GLE 53 Coupe will have
a hybridized powertrain that consists of a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder
engine and an electric motor. The engine produces 429 hp and 520 Nm of torque, but the electric motor can deliver an extra 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque for a short boost of
performance This setup enables the GLE 53 to accelerate from 0-100
km/h in 5.3 seconds and onto an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Given this, we can expect similar numbers from the GLE 53 Coupe.
Other notable features should include an AMG
Performance all-wheel drive system, a sport-tuned suspension and a revised
steering system with an AMG-specific rack and pinion ratio. The model will also
have a revised interior which has an AMG Performance steering wheel, sport
seats and red contrast stitching.
